Chocolate Muesli Mix

When you’re in a hurry in the morning, there’s nothing easier than pouring muesli into a bowl, adding plant-based yogurt or milk, a bit of fresh fruit (if there’s time), and breakfast is ready. Stores are full of tempting muesli mixes, but unfortunately, they often contain ingredients (or a price) that aren’t desirable. These are some of the versions we make at home and enjoy.

The five diferent variations of this homemade muesli mix are Chocolate, Chocolate-Mango, Mango-Strawberry, Strawberry-Vanilla and Chocolate-Coconut. They all contain the same base ingredients, so you can easily make them at the same time. This way you can have all the ingredients that you love every day, but with a diferent taste so you won’t get bored. Try experimenting yourself and make a new taste that you will love.

Equipment

  • Food Processor optional

Ingredients

Muesli Base:

  • 500 g rolled oats
  • 75 g walnuts finely chopped
  • 75 g pumpkin seeds finely chopped
  • 6 tablespoons flaxseeds freshly ground
  • 5 Brazil nuts finely chopped

🍫Chocolate Muesli:

  • Add to the base:
  • 75 g dark chocolate finely chopped
  • 130 g dates finely chopped; tip: if you chop the chocolate and dates together in a food processor the dates will taste like chocolate
  • a bit of vanilla powder
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

🍫🥭Chocolate-Mango Muesli:

  • Add to the base:
  • 120 g dried mango finely chopped, preservative-free
  • 100 g coconut chips
  • 50 g dark chocolate finely chopped

🥭🍓Mango-Strawberry Muesli:

  • Add to the base:
  • 120 g dried mango finely chopped, preservative-free
  • 30 g dried strawberries finely chopped
  • a bit of vanilla powder

🍓Strawberry-Vanilla Muesli:

  • Add to the base:
  • 50 g dried strawberries finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla powder

🍫🥥Chocolate-Coconut Muesli:

  • Add to the base:
  • 50 g dark chocolate finely chopped
  • 100 g coconut chips

Instructions

  • Using a Food Processor (or manually with a knife) finely chop all the base ingredients except the rolled oats. Mix them together in a bowl.
  • Depending on desired version, add the other selected ingredients to the prepared base. You will need one whole muesli base amount for each different taste. So if you wish to make all five tastes, you will need to make the muesli base five times.
  • Enjoy with plant-based yogurt or milk, add fresh fruit as desired, and eat immediately or let it sit for a few minutes (if you have time) to soften the muesli a bit.

Tips and Info

Since flaxseeds contain valuable omega-3 fatty acids that unfortunately oxidise quickly, I recommend keeping the mixture in the refrigerator, in a closed container. Another option is not to put ground flaxseed in the base initially but keep it separately in a jar in the fridge and add one tablespoon to the muesli every morning.
Walnuts also contain omega-3 fatty acids and pumpkin seeds are particularly rich in zinc, so this is a convenient way to use them regularly.
