Turmeric Latte has been my favourite warm beverage for a long time, and I drink it every day. There are many different blends available on the market, but they often contain added sugars or other ingredients that I wish to avoid or simply don’t like, so I make my own blend. Even the kids love to drink it, especially when I add a little naturally sweetened oat milk to give it some sweetness. For a less sweet tea, I use soy milk.
Only the healthiest ingredients for turmeric latte spice blend
Turmeric latte sounds like the only ingredient you really need is turmeric. But why stop there? My spice blend, in addition to turmeric, contains cinnamon, dried ginger powder, pepper, ground cardamom, and an optional dash of nutmeg and ground vanilla. This combination of anti-inflammatory spices is as delicious as it is healthy for our bodies. Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant whose main ingredient – curcumin – is being studied for use in the prevention and fight against cancer. Cinnamon is great for controlling blood sugar. Pepper enhances the bioavailability of turmeric even up to 2000 times. Ginger helps against migraines, pain, heavy periods, nausea, as well as with blood sugar control. Cardamom boosts the activity of our natural killer cells. This list sounds like something you’d get at the drugstore, but without the side effects, it tastes amazing, and it costs a lot less. You can get the ingredients already ground and just combine them according to the instructions in my recipe or if you have a coffee grinder, you can grind some of them fresh.
How to prepare turmeric latte?
Once you have your turmeric latte spice blend ready, you need a tall heatproof glass, boiling water and some plant-based milk of your choice. We prefer to use oat or soy milk. Oats are naturally sweeter, and soy gives it a more neutral taste. Put half a teaspoon of the prepared mixture in a tall glass, pour boiling water over it up to 3/4 of the height of the glass, stir well to mix the spices and add cold or warm plant-based milk to fill the glass. Over time, I started adding less milk, maybe 1/5 or less, and it’s enough for me, so do experiment.
Another option is to prepare this latte on a stove. This process takes a little longer, but the spices are mixed better and therefore used better. Pour 200ml of water plus 100ml of plant-based milk of your choice into a small saucepan, add half to one teaspoon of spices blend and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Cook at low temperature for about 3-4 minutes while stirring. Transfer the latte to a heat-resistant glass or mug and enjoy. According to Ayurveda, this is how “golden milk” is made, except that they cook spices in milk, without water.

Ingredients
Turmeric Latte Spice Blend
- 60 g ground turmeric powder
- 4 teaspoons cinnamon 10g
- 3 teaspoons dried ginger powder 6g
- ¾ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- a pinch of ground nutmeg optional
- ¼ teaspoon ground vanilla optional
Turmeric Latte
- ½ to 1 teaspoon of turmeric latte spice blend
- 250 ml water
- 100 ml oat drink or soy drink
Instructions
For Turmeric Latte Spice Blend
- Mix all ingredients well and store in a closed container (for example a jar) in a dry and dark place.
For Turmeric Latte, option 1
- Put 1/2 teaspoon spice blend into a tall glass or cup.
- Bring the water to a boil and add it to the glass up to 2/3 of the height of the glass or mug. Stir well.
- Top up the glass with cold or slightly warmed oat or soy milk. Serve immediately.
For Turmeric Latte, option 2
- Pour 200ml of water plus 100ml of plant-based milk of your choice into a small saucepan, add half to one teaspoon of spice blend and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Cook at low temperature for about 3-4 minutes while stirring.
- Transfer the tea to a heat-resistant glass or mug and enjoy.
